To Our Community,
You might be feeling a range of emotions right now. Amidst the beauty of summer in the Pacific Northwest, you may be, like we are at HealthierHere, taking stock of the immediate and far-reaching impacts of the recent passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R. 1).
This law will have devastating effects on individuals, families, and communities across the nation and Washington State, including stripping hundreds of thousands of Washington residents of access to healthcare, food assistance, and other essential services they need to be healthy and live well. Organizations and agencies on the frontlines of support bear the brunt of increased need as their budgets are slashed.
So, where do you find hope?
I find hope seeing those organizations and change-makers show up day-after-day – in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds – for the people they serve. Friends and family take care of each other with fierce love. Community comes through.
Let’s channel our hope into action.
When the fabric of the social safety net is weakened and torn, we can weave solutions together. And we must move beyond patching holes.
HealthierHere carries forward in working to connect and strengthen health and social care systems to deliver equitable, whole-person care to all people in King County, focusing on those who experience the effects of inequity, racism, and discrimination.
We can come together to stand up for the communities we hold dear. I invite you to dive deeper with HealthierHere’s cross-sector collaborative to share your bold ideas, connect with diverse leaders and partners, and join us in collective action to advance health equity.
Please reach out to explore how you can get involved.
In solidarity,
John Kim
